Updates

How NotBot auto-updates, the stable and beta channels, the What's New popup, and minimum OS versions.

Last updated 2026-05-23 · Applies to NotBot 1.3.4+

NotBot updates itself automatically. This page covers how the update mechanism works, the difference between channels, and how to switch.

How updates work

NotBot checks for new versions:

  • On startup, with a brief delay.
  • Every 6 hours while the app is running.
  • Manually from the tray icon's Check for Updates menu item, or from Settings → About.

When an update is available, NotBot downloads it in the background. An update indicator appears in the top bar of the app when the download finishes. Click it to restart and install. If you don't restart manually, the update installs automatically the next time you quit and reopen NotBot.

The update check requires a valid MellowState session.

Channels: stable vs beta

NotBot ships on two update channels:

  • Stable (default): production releases. Tested.
  • Beta: pre-release builds. Newer features land here first.

Switch channels in Settings → About → Update channel. When you switch from beta to stable, NotBot keeps you on your current version until a stable release is newer than what you have. You don't get rolled back automatically.

The What's New popup

Each time you launch a NotBot version newer than the one you last saw, a What's New popup summarizes the changes in the releases between the version you used last and the version you're on now. Dismiss it and NotBot remembers the version so the popup won't appear again until the next upgrade.

Minimum operating system versions

NotBot 1.3.x runs on:

  • macOS 12 (Monterey) or later. Apple Silicon and Intel are both supported.
  • Windows 10 (64-bit) or later, including Windows 11.

Older Macs (Big Sur and earlier) cannot run NotBot 1.3.
