Getting Started

System requirements, install, sign in, printer setup, and your first label.

Last updated 2026-05-23 · Applies to NotBot 1.3.4+

Setup takes under five minutes if your printer is already installed. This page walks through the full first-run flow.

What you need

  • A Mac running macOS 12 (Monterey) or later, Intel or Apple Silicon. Or a Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer (64-bit).
  • A MellowState account. Sign in with email and password, Google, or Apple. Whichever method you used to create the account is the one you continue to use.
  • A thermal label printer with the manufacturer's own driver installed. Generic operating system drivers ("Generic Text Printer", "Generic / Text Only") do not work with NotBot. This applies on both Mac and Windows.
  • A way to go live on Whatnot, Poshmark Live, or eBay Live. Whatnot is the primary supported platform. Poshmark and eBay are supported in beta. Most sellers go live from a phone or iPad and run NotBot alongside on their computer.

USB is the recommended printer connection. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth thermal printers work, but USB is the most reliable, especially during long live shows.

Step 1: Install NotBot

Download the installer from your MellowState dashboard at mellowstate.com/notbot.

  • macOS: open the downloaded file and drag NotBot to Applications. The first launch may take a few seconds while macOS verifies the signature.
  • Windows: run the installer. You can install for the current user or for all users. On the very first run, Windows may show a "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting" warning because the build is new. Click "More info" then "Run anyway".

Step 2: Sign in

Click Login with MellowState on the welcome screen. Your default web browser opens to the MellowState sign-in page so you can use saved passwords and existing Google or Apple sessions. After you authorize NotBot, the browser hands the session back to the app and you stay signed in across restarts.

Your sign-in is stored securely using your operating system's built-in credential storage. If your credential storage is locked or unavailable, NotBot falls back to storing the sign-in locally and shows a warning so you can fix the underlying issue.

Step 3: Run the Getting Started wizard

The first time you sign in, a wizard walks you through:

  1. Welcome and overview. A quick reminder that NotBot watches your show from your computer while you go live. Most sellers stream from a phone or tablet alongside.
  2. Print mode. Pick Every Item, Buyer Only (the default), or Every Item + Buyer. The wizard shows a live simulation of each mode so you can pick the one that matches how you pack. See Print Modes for the details.
  3. Label size. Pick the size that matches the thermal paper loaded in your printer. The wizard shows a proportional preview. See Label Sizes for the available sizes.
  4. Printer setup. NotBot scans your operating system for available printers. Click Refresh if your printer doesn't appear immediately. After you select a printer, the Print Test Label button sends a sample label so you can verify everything is wired up before going live.
  5. Walkthrough. A short orientation to the dashboard.
  6. Done. A summary of your choices and a button to start using NotBot.

You can re-run the wizard at any time from Settings → About → Run Setup Wizard.

Step 4: Prevent your computer from sleeping

If your Mac or PC sleeps mid-show, NotBot loses its connection to your livestream and any wins that happen while the computer is asleep are missed. This applies whether you are on battery or plugged in, on Mac or Windows.

  • macOS: System Settings → Lock Screen → set "Turn display off when inactive" to Never. Then System Settings → Battery → Options → enable "Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off". Plug in if you are on a laptop.
  • Windows: Settings → System → Power & battery → Screen and sleep → set both "Screen" and "Sleep" to Never while plugged in. If you are on a laptop, do the same for "On battery power".

Step 5: Go live

NotBot's built-in browser loads Whatnot by default. To use Poshmark Live or eBay Live (both in beta), navigate the built-in browser to the platform's website. Sign in to your seller account and navigate to your scheduled show. Start the show as you normally would. Most sellers start from a phone or tablet running alongside NotBot. You can also start the show from inside NotBot's browser if you turn on Allow camera and microphone in Settings → Advanced.

As auctions, giveaways, and Buy It Now sales happen, NotBot:

  • Assigns each new buyer the next sequential number for this show, in whatever mode and event combinations call for numbering. See Print Modes for exactly when numbers are assigned.
  • Prints labels according to your selected print mode.
  • Updates the dashboard with the live activity, stats, and print queue.

After the show, you can reprint auction labels from Show History. Past-show purchase and giveaway reprints are not exposed there today. See Show History for the details.
