Print Modes
Every Item, Buyer Only, and Every Item + Buyer — what each one prints for every event type.
Last updated 2026-05-23 · Applies to NotBot 1.3.4+
Print mode is the single most important setting in NotBot. It controls what kind of label prints for each event during your show. This page explains all three modes and how each event type behaves in each one.
There are three print modes:
- Every Item: print one item label per win, regardless of the buyer.
- Buyer Only (default): print one buyer label per buyer on their first auction win. Buyer labels for giveaways and Buy It Now are off by default but can be turned on per event type.
- Every Item + Buyer: print item labels for every win, and a buyer label on each buyer's first win across auctions, Buy It Now, and giveaways.
You set the mode in Settings → Print Settings → Print Mode. You can change it any time, including mid-show.
Buyer Only mode (default)
By default, prints one buyer label (also called a box label) per buyer when they win their first auction in the show. The label shows the buyer's assigned number and username. Returning buyers who have already won an auction earlier in the show do not trigger a new label.
Giveaway and Buy It Now sales follow their own per-event settings. Both default to Item label, which means no separate buyer label and no new number for purchases. You can turn on buyer labels for either event type in Settings.
This is the "box method": stick the buyer label on a box, then toss every item that buyer wins into the box as the show goes on.
- Auction wins: print a buyer label for new buyers. Nothing prints for returning buyers, unless the milestone reprint setting fires (see below).
- Giveaway wins: by default, print an item label for the winner. To change this, go to Settings → Advanced → Buyer Mode Labels → Giveaway labels. The options are Item label, Buyer label only, or Buyer + item labels. The default is Item label, which uses an existing buyer number for the winner if they already have one from an earlier auction, but does not assign a new one.
- Buy It Now purchases: same shape as giveaways, controlled by the Purchase labels option in the same Settings section. Default is Item label. In the default mode, the item label prints with a blank number. NotBot does not assign or look up a buyer number for default-mode purchases.
- Buyer numbers: assigned sequentially (#1, #2, #3, ...). In this mode, numbers are assigned on a buyer's first auction win. They are also assigned on giveaway and Buy It Now events when the matching label mode is set to Buyer label only or Buyer + item labels. In default mode for giveaways, NotBot looks up an existing number but does not assign a new one. In default mode for purchases, NotBot does not look up or assign a number. Numbers stay with the buyer for the rest of the show, even if you restart NotBot mid-show.
Every Item mode
Prints an item label for every single auction, giveaway, and Buy It Now purchase. The label shows the item name, the buyer's username, and a badge (AUCTION WIN, GIVEAWAY, or BUY IT NOW).
This mode is best when you want to physically tag every item before placing it in a buyer's pile or box.
- Auction wins: always print an item label.
- Giveaway wins: always print an item label, unless Skip giveaways is turned on.
- Buy It Now purchases: always print an item label, unless Skip Buy It Now purchases is turned on.
- Buyer numbers: Every Item mode does not assign or print buyer numbers. The number field on the label is left blank. If you need buyer numbers on item labels too, use Every Item + Buyer mode.
Every Item + Buyer mode
Combines both: an item label for every win, plus a buyer/box label the first time a new buyer appears.
- Auction wins: always print an item label. If the buyer is new and Print box label for new buyers is on (it is on by default), a separate buyer label also prints.
- Buy It Now purchases: same as auctions. Item label always, plus a buyer label for new buyers (gated by Print box label for new buyers).
- Giveaway wins: always print an item label. If the winner is new and Print box label for new buyers is on, a separate buyer label prints, same as auctions. The Buyer Only mode label settings do not affect this mode.
- The Print box label for new buyers checkbox in Settings is the master switch for the buyer-label half of this mode. Turn it off and only item labels print. Item labels in this mode still include the buyer's number, so this is not the same as switching to Every Item mode (which prints item labels with no number).
Quick reference
| Event | Every Item | Buyer Only (default) | Every Item + Buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auction win, new buyer | Item label (no number) | Buyer label | Item label (with number) + buyer label (if Print box label for new buyers is on) |
| Auction win, returning buyer | Item label (no number) | Nothing (unless reprint milestone) | Item label (and a buyer label if reprint milestone fires and Print box label for new buyers is on) |
| Buy It Now, new buyer | Item label (no number) | Depends on Purchase labels | Item label (with number) + buyer label (if Print box label for new buyers is on) |
| Buy It Now, returning buyer | Item label (no number) | Depends on Purchase labels (item label by default; Buyer label only prints nothing for returning buyers) | Item label (and a buyer label if reprint milestone fires and Print box label for new buyers is on) |
| Giveaway, new winner | Item label (no number) | Depends on Giveaway labels (item label by default) | Item label (with number) + buyer label (if Print box label for new buyers is on) |
| Giveaway, returning winner | Item label (no number) | Depends on Giveaway labels (item label by default) | Item label (and a buyer label if reprint milestone fires and Print box label for new buyers is on) |
If Skip giveaways is on, the giveaway row is suppressed entirely across every mode. Same for Skip Buy It Now purchases.
New buyer vs returning buyer
A buyer is considered "new" the first time NotBot assigns them a buyer number. In Every Item + Buyer mode, the number is assigned at the first auction, giveaway, or Buy It Now sale. In Buyer Only mode, the number is assigned at the first auction win, and also at the first giveaway or Buy It Now sale when the matching label mode is set to Buyer label only or Buyer + item labels. In Every Item mode no numbers are assigned. Chat messages and giveaway entries do not on their own assign a buyer number.
Once a number is assigned, it stays with the buyer for the rest of the show. Numbers are preserved if NotBot is restarted mid-show. Numbers start at 1 again on a new show.
Pinned shop listings sold as Buy It Now
Whatnot lets a seller pin a shop Buy It Now listing into the live show and run it like an auction. NotBot treats those sales as Buy It Now purchases, not auctions, so:
- They count toward your Buy It Now totals, not your auction totals.
- They use your Buy It Now label settings (in Buyer Only mode).
- They show the BUY IT NOW badge on the label.
- They respect the Skip Buy It Now purchases toggle.
- They count toward bonus and reprint milestones on the Buy It Now counters, not the auction counters.
This is on by default. If you want pinned Buy It Now listings to be treated like auctions instead, turn off Treat pinned shop listings as Buy It Now in Settings → Advanced.
Milestone reprints (returning buyers)
The Reprint at purchase milestones setting (in the Reprint Buyer Label section of Settings → Advanced) fires a fresh buyer/box label every N events for the same buyer, but only in cases that already produce buyer labels:
- Buyer Only mode auction wins.
- Buyer Only mode giveaways or Buy It Now sales, only when the matching Giveaway labels or Purchase labels setting is Buyer label only or Buyer + item labels. The default Item label mode never produces a buyer label, so it never produces a reprint either.
- Every Item + Buyer mode auctions, giveaways, and Buy It Now sales, gated by Print box label for new buyers.
You can pick which event types count toward the milestone (auctions, Buy It Now purchases, giveaways) independently. The reprinted buyer label keeps the buyer's same number. The template, label format, and printer are resolved from your current settings at the time the reprint fires, so if you change templates or printer routing mid-show, reprints follow the new routing.
